There was an old man and an old woman. They were really lonely because they had no children. One day while the old woman was by the river, she found a giant peach floating down the river. The peach looked so delicious that she went after it immediately. She brought it home for dinner. When the old man saw the peach after a long day’s work, he wanted to dig in immediately.

He got a knife ready, but before he could cut the peach open. The pech split open and inside was a baby boy. The old couple was overjoyed to finally have a child of their own. They named him “Momotaru” meaning peach boy. The couple did their best to teach him a strong sense of justice and when the boy grew up to the age of fifteen. He asked for his parents permission to travel to Ogre Island to fight against the ogres that were attacking his village.

Momotaru’s parents granted him permission arming him with a sword and off he went....
